Evaluation of Semester A showreel and work ethic

Projection Mapping

– Spent too long trying out my own methods instead of using the ones i knew worked for the final project

– Should have done more development in a shorter time

– Breakdowns are rushed off an old build

Camera Tracking

– track went relatively well

– model was rushed quickly

– lighting was a serious issue

Modelling

– Extremely rushed

– Didn’t learn enough about the modelling process, needed to learn how to sculpt

– Arnold renderer decided to break when i needed it most. No efficient lighting.

Work Ethic

– Time management

-Needed more connection to the actual work

Learning Agreement

For the first semester, I created a VFX showreel to the guidelines that Framestore go by to assess showreels. These were;

– Photorealism

– Show skills for the area you want to work with

– No narrative, use Individual shots

I created 3 shots focusing on camera mapping, camera tracking and 3D modelling.

This semester I want to focus more on the modelling and tracking side, creating a showreel more dedicated to matchmove.

I will create 3 shots again, each using different footage and having either one large model or multiple smaller ones tracked into the shot. This is because I felt like I can improve on these methods to show a more professional quality of work.

My method of work to create these will be

-Location Scouting

-Concept art

-Narrative (a reason why the models are in the shot)

-Filming footage

-Tracking

-Modelling

-Texturing

-Lighting

This should allow for plenty of research and development despite having done it once already.

To enhance my research I will use more books

To enhance my development I will record my voice over my work to speak about the challenges I faced during creation.

My chosen strand is the media product as this showreel would be used for future job applications so being able to focus heavily on the final product seems like the right choice this semester.
